Chamber
Feed ramp
Breech face
Visually inspect the chamber.
Physically inspect the chamber.

Anytime the firearm becomes excessively dirty
Even firearms that are rarely fired should be inspected periodically for rust or corrosion.
Store firearms:
In a cool, dry location
Inside a quality gun safe or locking cabinet
With a light protective coating of oil
Away from excessive humidity
Consider using:
Dehumidifier rods
Silica gel packs
Humidity monitors
Do NOT:
Over-lubricate your firearm.
Use household oils or automotive lubricants.
Force parts during disassembly. Use the wrong caliber cleaning tools.
Ignore signs of rust or excessive wear.
While cleaning, check for:
Rust or corrosion
Loose screws
Cracked grips or stocks
Damaged magazines
Excessive wear
Broken or worn springs
If something doesn't look right, have the firearm inspected by a qualified gunsmith.
Once your firearm has been cleaned:
